Archaeology In Newfoundland and Labrador 1980 was the first volume in a series of publications released by the Historic Resources Division of the Department of Tourism and Culture, Government of Newfoundland & Labrador.  This annual publication lasted until 1986. In 2002 the Provincial Archaeology Office (PAO) released the first PAO Newsletter in an attempt to the to inform the archaeology community about what occurred during the previous field season.

By 2006 the Newsletter had grown to 90 pages and the name was changed to the PAO Review.
